Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving (SAFED NZ) Programme
A fuel-efficient driving style is closely linked with improved road safety. Adopting simple fuel-efficient driving techniques gives drivers more time to identify hazards and react to them.
Safe and Fuel-Efficient Driving New Zealand (SAFED NZ) is a driver training development course for truck, bus, and coach drivers. There are two separate courses: one for truck drivers and one for bus and coach drivers. The course helps reduce fuel and maintenance costs, reduce CO2 emissions, and improve driver safety and environmental sustainability.
We have courses available for drivers and operators wanting to become a SAFED NZ Instructor in their business.
Prerequisites

You must hold a full New Zealand Class licence for the class of vehicle you will be operating, please bring it with you on the day.

Access to customers' own loaded truck and trailer or tractor and semi combination is preferable. TR vehicles can be provided at extra cost.
Course Numbers and Pricing
Basic SAFED NZ course:

Cost $1,600 + GST Group Rate.

Training for groups at your site is available with a maximum of 2 trainees per instructor.
SAFED NZ Instructor course

Cost $3,200 + GST Group Rate.

Training for groups at your site is available with a minimum of 1 – maximum of 2 trainees.
Course Duration and Unit Standards

Basic SAFED NZ course - One day consisting of both in class theory and practical driving.

SAFED NZ Instructor course - Two days consisting of both in class theory and practical driving (a 3rd day can be made available for an additional charge).
What happens after you finish the course

We will issue your electronic Certificate of achievement, NZTA will issue your SAFED Certificate.
